It was so sudden. He woke up with a flash, bright lights, soft sounds, a bed, he was alive?? But he'd died in the chamber...in engineering. Spock and he had exchanged that vulcan hand-thing whatever the hell it was. He'd died, he was dead. Was this heaven? Holy....

No. Bones was here nagging at him.

"Oh don't be so melodramatic, you were barely dead. You've been out cold for two weeks."

He was so...taken aback. What had happened? He just remembered being in the locked chamber watching Spock shed tears, glimmering tears of anguish as he slowly died of radiation poisoning... his heart lurched at the memory. He didn't know the vulcan was even capable...

And then Spock was in the room, approaching him. Suddenly... everything else was forgotten. Hell even Bones was gone in his mind, though he could hear the doctor put in a "You know Uhura and I had something to do with it too."

"....Thanks, Spock... for saving my life..."

[Nyota quirked an eyebrow as she walked around to the other side of Jim... assessing him like a bird of prey.]

Long term eh?
Well... I guess there's hope for you after all.

[Uhura leaned with her back on the railing...]

_{[he smirked coyly at her, assessing her right back but it was clearly devoid of anything sexual. He wasn't interested in her anymore.]}

Hard as that is for anyone to believe, Uhura. I think I can finally commit to someone.

Thing is... I... have never been in love before now. Spock's my first. _{[he leaned on the railing, flicking off a pice of dirt blown in by the wind]}

I'd do anything for him. Kill, die, grab him out of an active volcano. _{[All of those things were things he'd done for Spock in the last three weeks by the way.]}

It's just like they say... you love someone and suddenly no one else matters. Suddenly there's only two kinds of people in the world. There's Spock and there's everyone else. You're right about me, Nyota... I didn't care about anyone I slept with before. Hell I used a good part of them for something else, it never meant anything. But... Spock means something. Spock means everything. And it scares me but it's not something I plan on letting go so long as I'm alive.

That's all I needed to hear...

[Uhura looked down.... her face going blank as she went silent.
When she looked up her eyes may or may not have been a little over-bright... but she looked determined as she stepped up close to Jim, invading his personal space.]

But you know what... I thought I had that too... Spock was my everything.
[Uhura's lip quivered... but then her face hardened as she pressed that lethal finger into Jim's chest again.]
And if you ever... ever hurt him... Captain or no I will castrate you then throw you out an air-lock.
[Uhura glared for one moment. She had to make her point... she just had to... Because she was never going to get this chance again. It felt like her heart was bleeding out on the floor and she wanted to scream in anguish.
But she couldn't... she wouldn't. She was Nyota Uhura....a strong female that could bounce back from anything.

Well...she'll at least pretend she could anyway.


With one last glare, her face morphed into a smirk, her body language taking on a flirtatious stance.]
Thanks for the invite Jim.

[And with that, she walked back into the apartment.]

_{[This should have been scarier than it was. Honestly coming from her it was kind of cute. And the rest was just... strangely encouraging. He wanted her to demand he treat Spock well. He wanted everyone to demand that because he was totally going to do it. He just nodded at her threat.]}

_{[then she was walking away, her poker face was flawless. He felt sad for her then. He knew that poker face. She had no idea how well he knew it. It was his own.]}

[It would take time for Nyota to heal... Spock could see that plainly as she walked back into the apartment.
She was always so good at hiding her feelings, almost Vulcan-like.

When Uhura looked at him, her smile was small, but genuine... then she nodded, as if to say she was going to be okay.
The Vulcan continued to watch her as she went to get a drink... Satisfied, Spock went for the balcony door, and walked outside.

Spock had been rather... apprehensive when he saw both Jim and Nyota walk out onto the balcony.]

_{[He was looking out over the bay, leaning on the rail. At Spock's word he turned over his shoulder... And grinned brightly.]}

Hey. C'mere... Look at this.

_{[Golden Gate Bridge at sunset. The waves, cars, boats, even a few dolphins. The sky was firey orange fading to luscious pink then radiant purple. The city lights were coming on slowly and even the bridge was lighting up. It was a calendar worthy shot to say the least.]}

[The Vulcan walked forward and stood beside his T'hy'la... Perfect posture with his hands behind his back, Spock looked out at the aesthetically pleasing view.

Spock was silent for only a moment...]

I find that I am ...apprehensive to inquire about your conversation with Lieutenant Uhura...

Hm? Naw don't be. She's just trying to protect you and in her defense she has every reason to doubt me. She's wrong but I can see her perspective...

_{[He remembered what Uhura said... about communication. And Spock was being so forthcoming, wasn't everything just fine? Yeah?]}

[It had been a very interesting 24 hours.... Spock needed to mediate before his emotions started to flay him.]

Nyota and I spoke very briefly...

[Regret, guilt, sadness.... all these emotions were swirling around the Vulcan's mind, and he did not want to admit them.]

We should rejoin our guests...

You never gave into the rumors about me? Even on campus? I guess you were above all that. You're better for it, those stories aren't very flattering. Some of them aren't even true.

She is... but she's strong, Spock. She's not going to wilt. She let you go because you needed someone else. She just wanted to make sure I was going to treat you right. And I will... and I think I have so far... have I?

_{[Something in Spock's eyes. It wasn't right. He leaned his back against the railing, reaching forward to brush away some of Spock's hair where the ocean wind was blowing it out of place.]}

[Spock looked over at Jim....

His mother used to ask him that all the time. "What are you feeling Spock? ...help me understand."

Spock reached up and stilled Jim's hand... bringing it back down but holding on...]

Speaking about one's emotions is not unlike learning to speak a new language. You will have to be patient with me Jim.

[Spock rubbed his index and middle finger against Jim's...] But know that I am quite well.

_{[He watched, pleased as Spock only moved his hand instead of gently rejecting it. His voice was calm and kind, even melodic as he spoke again. Damn what happened. Was he in love or something?]}

_{[His eyes slowly closed at that sensation. Could it be that vulcan kisses were better than human ones? Maybe...]}

[With a final 'kiss', and a half-smile... Spock let go of Jim's hand and led them back into the apartment where everyone was waiting for them. Well, waiting for Jim. He had such a brilliant personality that everyone was naturally attracted to. Spock was proud to be part of such a gravitational pull. The man truly was his sun.. the center of his universe.

Toasts were said and sentiments were passed along... especially from Mister Scott and Doctor McCoy, who by that point had a 'few too many'.
Spock watched the entire exchange with a certain degree of fascination (humans were such emotional creatures), but at the same time he was lost in thought.

So much had changed for them... the entire bridge crew... in such a short amount of time. They would have to grow and adjust accordingly...

...but they were all strong and up to the task. They did indeed have the finest crew in Starfleet.
The Vulcan watched Jim with warmth and pride as he bid farewell to each of his guests, the Captain was very obviously well loved. Pavel hugged him, bouncing like a puppy while Hikaru shook his hands and clapped him on the back.
Spock felt a small bite of jealousy as Carol gave Jim a big hug and kiss on the cheek, but he tempered it quickly. Mister Scott seemed to speak in a language that the Vulcan could not comprehend, but Jim seemed to understand... interesting... he'll have to ask for a translation later. Doctor McCoy had this... odd look on his face. It must have been one of affection... perhaps it was this 'brotherly love' that Jim spoke of from time to time.
Nyota left as she came, with her head held high... and a warning glare for both of them.

Indeed... Captain Kirk was well loved. Especially by Spock.
Love...That was another matter that needed to be addressed. Jim had mentioned twice already that he was ready to 'marry' him. Vulcan marriage, or bonding, was a serious matter, and one that should not be considered lightly or fallen into too hastily.

On the other hand... if they were bonded... Jim would always know what Spock was thinking and feeling.


For now, the apartment was blissfully quiet, and Spock had moved to the sink... his hands covered in soap as he washed up the dishes.]

<sub>[It was a great night for Jim. He had a family, a close-knit one and he cherished each member. The night flew by, was it already time to go? No? Well past time to go? Wow...

He bade everyone goodbye, promised to see everyone soon, and closed their door. He sighed heavily and then stepped over to gather the beer bottles up. All of them in the trash... then he joined Spock at the sink, rolling his sleeves up. He took the clean dishes and dried them, then slowly... managed to get them put away. Ah...where did this one go? Or this one? Don't worry he'll figure it out, just give him a minute.]</sub>

[Spock found that watching Jim was a fascinating process... Instead of asking for help... he just searched on his own.
At one point Spock silently opened the cupboard in front of him, indicating that the platter goes there without saying so...
Take the hint sweet heart.

Doing dishes has never been so amusing.

Eventually though, Spock was finished, and he drained the sink.]

Is there anything you require at this time Jim?

_{[He offered a single smile in thanks and set the dishes away without a word. It was new for him to be able to have such a comfortable yet communicative silence. He appreciated it. The whole chore done with a kind of pleasure. It hadn't even been work, really...]}

Hm? Oh there's always plenty of things I want, but...what are you offering? _{[He was maybe playing coy. Maybe also setting the tone for taking you back to bed if you were of a mindset for that.]}

[Spock tilted his head as he regarded Jim... slight confusion crossing his face.]

You will have to be more specific... as I am offering many things.

_{[He stepped over, reached around Spock, and placed his palm at the back of his neck. He pulled his love in for a slow sensual kiss. There. Answered?]}

[Spock breathed in sharply in surprise... but quickly sunk into the kiss.
Even though it was only the first day, he found it to be quite possible that he would never tire of Jim's kisses.

The Vulcan hummed quietly into Jim's mouth... fingers tracing the lines of Jim's face.]

<sub>[Spock's return was a bigger victory now that Jim knew how...economical he was with kissing Uhura. Perhaps Spock was in fact a very passionate lover but only for the right person. And he was damn pleased he happened to be that person. Spock would never want for love with him, physical or emotional.

His other hand swept across Spock's back and settled at his hip. He sighed as Spock touched him, letting the kiss flow into another and another... he wouldn't make any mention of sex this time. He felt a little bad about what had happened before with Spock's first time. Not that he regretted how he treated him but he'd unknowingly pushed the envelope on something Spock should have openly welcomed.

If that was to happen again tonight, it would have to come from Spock. For now he was satisfied with his kisses.]</sub>

[Spock was quite happy to be kissing Jim... So he contented himself with standing there, moving his lips against Jim's, humming softly.

Oh. We're they supposed to go somewhere comfortable? Was sex the naturally succession to this? Spock wasn't all that sure... He was waiting for Jim to make their decision.

Looks like we have a stalemate.]

<sub>[Well... maybe not quite a stalemate. He can move them a step over so Spock was pressed against the counter. His lips parted from Spock's and trailed up his jaw. His hands traversed his form, arms holding him close. This was an exploration for the senses. To feel Spock's body more than to see it.

[All the while the Vulcan was experience frustration at an indecision... Something that Nyota and McCoy implied left a lasting impression on the Vulcan. Were they moving too fast? Was this not the proper way of doing this with humans?
Granted, you didn't do this sort of thing on Vulcan either.

The Vulcan shuddered as he felt those fingers map his body.


It was that that changed his mind. Spock's hands grasped Jim's shoulders to pull him back slightly so he could speak.]
Ashaya... Jim...

I wish to speak with you... may we relocate to the balcony?

[That seemed an appropriate place... considering what had happened today.]

_{[He whined softly as he was pushed away, his eyes opened slowly, lips parted... how could anyone say no to that irresistible face? But he withdrew, he moved his hands down to Spock's hips as he listened... and it wasn't bad news. But why were they relocating out in public? Didn't... sex happen in bed? He was all for doing it anywhere but he knew Spock wasn't of a mind to even conceive sex in public yet.]}

Yeah, sure.

_{[He stepped back, out of Spock's grasp to head outside into the now brightly lit view of the city.]}

[Once out side the Vulcan seemed to hesitate... He had read up on certain human customs, and he had attempted to combine both Human and Vulcan traditions..

...he just hoped he didn't embarrass Jim.
Eventually, Spock went up to Jim and took hold of both his hands.... and sunk down to one knee.]
