It was so sudden. He woke up with a flash, bright lights, soft sounds, a bed, he was alive?? But he'd died in the chamber...in engineering. Spock and he had exchanged that vulcan hand-thing whatever the hell it was. He'd died, he was dead. Was this heaven? Holy....

No. Bones was here nagging at him.

"Oh don't be so melodramatic, you were barely dead. You've been out cold for two weeks."

He was so...taken aback. What had happened? He just remembered being in the locked chamber watching Spock shed tears, glimmering tears of anguish as he slowly died of radiation poisoning... his heart lurched at the memory. He didn't know the vulcan was even capable...

And then Spock was in the room, approaching him. Suddenly... everything else was forgotten. Hell even Bones was gone in his mind, though he could hear the doctor put in a "You know Uhura and I had something to do with it too."

"....Thanks, Spock... for saving my life..."

[Spock regarded Winona for a long moment...
He was beginning to see how he could have handled this morning a bit better... he was rather harsh. This woman has been alone since the day George Kirk died.

Spock looks at his empty cup...]
What will you do?

Stay here I guess. Take an early retirement. And Frank and I need to talk whenever he comes back. He's likely not going to be living here anymore. The farm will need someone...

Perhaps I'll manage it full time.

[Spock nods his thanks as he begins to sip his tea once more...

Spock couldn't help but relate to Winona's situation. He had given up a position at the esteemed VSA for Starfleet... not only in honour of his mother, but to follow his dreams.
The thought of travelling space without Jim though... it made the very vastness of the universe seem hallow and uninviting. He would probably resign and go to the new Vulcan settlement... his 'farm' as it were.]

Will you be... happy here? [The word sounded awkward coming out of Spock's mouth... but it was the only word that he could think of. Perhaps he meant 'content'? Satisfied?]

I don't know, Spock. I hope so. It's a step in the right direction if nothing else. Space hasn't helped so far... so something different might not necessarily be worse.

That's something that humans often have to do, Spock. Changing their habits or their environments after emotional traumas.

[Human were... perplexing. His father had remained in the same position as Ambassador even after the death of his wife. But then again... he should not measure in human terms.

Spock finished up his second cup and stood, taking his dishes to the sink.
He returned to Winona and inclined his head.]

May I be excused? As I mentioned before, I am in need of meditation.
[Spock waits this time to be excused... he's not going to make the same mistake twice.]

Thank you for the tea. It was rather more palatable than the replicated tea on the Enterprise.
[A very small, very subtle smile plays on Spock's features as he turned to go upstairs.

After shutting the door to their room, Spock makes himself comfortable on the floor... lighting a small candle in front of him. Taking deep, even breaths he begins to center himself.

This is a rather difficult task....For his entire life he, like all Vulcans, used the planet Vulcan as a means of meditative centering. Now that it was no longer there, the remaining Vulcans have started to use the new colony as their focus. But that place has never been a home for Spock... and neither has Earth.
Lately he has been using the Enterprise... but it was not sufficient. Instead he pictured a golden sun whose shining rays gives life to everything it touches.
Breathing slowly, Spock loses himself in waters so deep and so blue, warm and surrounding him in a comforting manner, that he never wishes to leave. There is a voice that says his name, and it is the only one he wants to hear...
Spock realizes that there is nothing that he would not do for the human that has touched his life so thoroughly. He would help guard and protect that beautiful creature even if it meant protecting him from Spock...
Spock thought of his mother and all of the emotions that she projected. As a Vulcan he had categorized every single one of them and it was only now that he decided to pull them out and analyze them. He was willing to learn this new language, no matter what it took.
The Vulcan centers himself on the one being that he has ever considered home.

[Surely there was a lot to go through. Time swept past as Spock did that meditative work. That sun? You might want to remember it, Spock.

Might want to let Jim know about the properties of Vulcan and a need to psychically ground oneself.

In time Spock will really hear his namebeibg called. It was nightfall, Jim was in the room Rowling off from a shower.]

Spock? Spock. Hey... Snap of it. It's dinner time.

[The Vulcan drifted on a sea of gold as he sought answers for all these... emotions... ]

Spock.

[Spock's meditation shifted, as if being roused from a deep sleep.
That voice... he wanted to cling to it and claim it as his own. Wanted to weave it into a golden thread and wrap it around himself...]

Spock?

[His breathing stuttered.... becoming more normal as he began to surface through the blue waters...]

Hey... Snap out of it! It's dinner time.
[Spock blinked awake and adjusted his inner chronometer.... He did not intend to meditate for that long. Spock looked up at Jim and blushed slightly at the sight.]


Jim... greetings. [The Vulcan stood in one fluid motion.] How is White Lightening?
[Spock looked at those eyes... eyes which he had been lost in for the last three? Four hours?]

[Jim grinned at him, eyes brightening with joy.]

Nice to see you on this side. What happened? You've been up here for hours.

[He wrapped his towel around his waist and his arms around Spock. His skin is sun kissed and cast a golden glow even indoors.]

Lighting is great. What's up with you? You ok?

[Spock inhaled the presence of Jim... leaning in to steal a chaste kiss.]

I am quite well Ashaya. It has been quite some time since I have meditated, and I was, as you say, 'overdue'. I did not, however, intend to meditate for that long... I apologise for making you worry.

[Spock lightly placed a hand on Jim's chest... feeling his heartbeat. Yes, he had chosen a rather suitable center for his mind.]

[He stole a few more quick kisses. His hand swept over Spock's, his ring glinting in the dim light.]

Did you think about me~?

[He pulled away then, getting dressed.]

[Spock hesitated at the question. Meditation was a rather private matter... but should he not inform Jim that he was using him for balance?]

Indeed... in fact, you could say that you were all I did think about.
[Spock looked a bit uneasy, hoping that Jim didn't mind...]

[He tilted his head, smirking. Clearly he was nothing but encouraged.]

Did you now? Tell me about it.

[he finished dressing and approached Spock from behind, whispering in his ear.]

[The tips of Spock's ears became a nice shade of green... but he resolved himself to explain.]

Meditation is key to a Vulcan's mental health. A key factor of the meditative process is the 'center'. The very core of which we ground ourselves when we meditate. It is there that we must make ourselves most comfortable, or rather 'at home'.
[Spock hesitates for a moment...]
The center acts like a beacon. For Vulcans it was our home planet.
Since its demise I have spoken with my father and learned that many have been able to use the new Vulcan colony to center themselves. I have never called that place home, nor have I ever felt as though I belonged on Earth.
I contented myself with using the Enterprise, the only place I felt like I belonged. However, I found it still lacking... until I started to use you. Every physical or mental contact we make provides me with a trace of your signature... the very thing that makes you inherently you. I have been using this as my beacon... my home.

[Spock went quiet for a moment... wondering if Jim would think he was odd.]

[He paused, thoughtful for a moment. That was deeper than he expected. Much more meaningful and... It was sweet. He had no idea Spock had that kind of dependence on a grounding element... And honestly he was pleased to be named Spock's center. He beamed.]

Me? Really?...

That's good... I'm glad actually. Is there anything you need from me? How does that work?

Do you need physical encounters from kw? More of my signature? I'm not opposed to that one bit.

[spohkh]

[Spock nearly smirked.]

I am uncertain, however I am not opposed to trying. [Spock leaned in to Jim, kissing his forehead and moving one hand to brush a 'kiss' there.]

Is your mother not waiting for us to come to dinner?
[Oh, the Vulcan is evil... or a cockblocker, you choose.]

[He sighed into the touch, closing his eyes.]

You jerk... Don't tease me.

She'll come looking for us. We better go.

[Spock inclined his head, a smile playing on his lips. Gently taking Jim's hand, he lead them out the door and down the stairs...
...where he did let Jim's hand go before they saw Winona in the kitchen.

Holding hands in public on Vulcan was considered obscene after all.]

[He squeezed Spock's hand eight before they broke apart. This would he interesting. See how long they hlcan make it before having to leave the table to 'sleep']

[It rather surprised the Vulcan, how pleasant dinner was that night. They shared various stories about their missions with Winona, and she shared some of hers.
Through dinner though, Spock couldn't help brushing his foot against Jim's every now and again...

Soon enough, they were excused from the dinner table, and some part of him knew that Winona knew that they wanted to get away. Again, it unnerved him how well she seemed to be able to read them.

Now they were once again walking up the stairs, bidding Winona a good night... and then he was shutting their door behind him. Effectively leaving them alone...]

[His mom made an immaculate dinner, as per her usual. She was a great cook when she put her heart in it. Jim ate, laughed, joked... And when the door closed behind him and Spock upstairs he immediately drew his love in for a gentle kiss.]

I really missed you today.

[spohkh]

[Spock almost whined into the kiss... he's been craving Jim all day too...
The Vulcan framed Jim's face and deepened the kiss.]


It would be accurate to state that I too miss your presence.

[Understatement of the century. Spock wanted to drink him in.
There was almost a certain desperation in Spock as he crowded Jim against the door... kissing him with everything he had.]

[He didn't respond in words. No point, might as well show himself physically. He moaned softly, kissing Spock harder, cardubg hands through his hair. He probed his mouth with his tongue, dragging one hand down his sideabd back up.

[Spock could continue kissing Jim forever... He wanted to memorize every contour, every flavour.... every gasp and sigh.
With a few tugs Spock had them on the bed and he continue to just kiss Jim.

He sucked on Jim's lower lip, drawing it into his mouth where he nibbled on it gently. His hands sought out Jim's, tangling their fingers together.

A soft purr rumbling through Spock's frame.



After being told that he was not good enough for Jim...he wanted nothing more than to assure himself of the love that they shared.]
