It was so sudden. He woke up with a flash, bright lights, soft sounds, a bed, he was alive?? But he'd died in the chamber...in engineering. Spock and he had exchanged that vulcan hand-thing whatever the hell it was. He'd died, he was dead. Was this heaven? Holy....

No. Bones was here nagging at him.

"Oh don't be so melodramatic, you were barely dead. You've been out cold for two weeks."

He was so...taken aback. What had happened? He just remembered being in the locked chamber watching Spock shed tears, glimmering tears of anguish as he slowly died of radiation poisoning... his heart lurched at the memory. He didn't know the vulcan was even capable...

And then Spock was in the room, approaching him. Suddenly... everything else was forgotten. Hell even Bones was gone in his mind, though he could hear the doctor put in a "You know Uhura and I had something to do with it too."

"....Thanks, Spock... for saving my life..."

_{[He was still spiraling down from the high like a leaf falling from its branch, swirling lazily in the air before softly landing on the ground. It was peaceful here. He wanted to rest... only Spock's voice could rouse him as it did. He didn't move physically but in his mind he heard his love.]}

Contrary to popular belief, Vulcans do indeed feel... they feel deeply and you know this well. The strength of the emotions are what we attempt to contain and suppress because as a society, we decided to adhere to logic.
Knowing that... certain feelings were lost and left undefined as many concepts are apt to do with disuse.

[Spock could feel Jim through the bond, as clearly as though they were in a meld. It was truly a novel feeling and the Vulcan found that he enjoyed it quite a bit...
...the only thing is that he felt Jim's disconnect, and that was unnerving. Was this one of the symptoms? Well.... he would monitor Jim closely.

And it wasn't as if it was a problem to hang onto Jim every time he needed it.]

_{[Jim fell asleep, and he wouldn't wake up for three days. No amount of shaking, calling, yelling, pinching, or water-dousing would wake him. His mind was building a barrier to the invasion the bond caused. He was developing a resistance and that took time and energy. To anyone outside, Jim seemed like he was in a coma but to Spock only... it was evident that Jim was very much alert inside his mind, he was just busy. Very very busy getting everything adjusted... it took all his energy. He literally couldn't open his eyes.]}

[At first Spock was quite concerned about Jim's condition.... but he did figure out what was happening and was able to assuage Winona's fears that he did not break her son.
The Vulcan also ensured to stay close to Jim, as any real degree of separation seemed to cause.... agitation.

When Jim wakes, Spock will be seated on a chair by the bed.... with a large platter of food on the table beside him.]

Spock...Spock?? Where are- where did you go?

And his mind asks all the questions. Why is he out of bed? How long has it been? Why is he dressed? Has it been a long time? Why is there food here? He's so hungry...how did Spock gues-- oh right. Bonded. Got it.

[With concern written all over his face, the Vulcan reaches forward to grasp Jim's hand.]

Ashaya... you have been asleep for three days following the consummation of the bond. You are dressed because... like all humans who spend that amount of time in a coma-like state...you had certain needs that had to be taken care of.
You need to eat.

[Spock lets go of Jim's hand only to gather the large plate with what looks like at least three sandwiches cut up into triangles.] If you finish this, I can acquire more.

[There was also a pitcher of water near by.]

<sub>[Needs? Certain needs? What like he was cold? Please tell him he was just cold and needed to be dressed. Maybe Spock cleaned him off, that's all Jim wants to have happened. Who knows what comatose bodies do... natural business? Please not in front of Spock. For his own pride.

He can't possibly finish all that food. Can't possibly...hey why is it disappearing so fast? He was famished but he didn't finish the whole thing. Though he was tempted to. He was a plate-cleaner and Spock knew it. Don't give him more than he can handle, vulcan, he gets all uptight about that.

But he's thirsty. Hey, is that water? GULP. Hey now it's empty... but Jim looks refreshed.]</sub>

[They were meatless sandwiches... so Spock finished whatever Jim could not. He knew how his mate got when there was food wasted.]

[Three days? Of course your body went through everything in three days. There's nothing to be embarrassed about, it was only logical. And Spock didn't mind.]

[Spock could feel Jim's mind, but he wanted to hear it from the horse's mouth.]

There is a Terran analogy about attempting to put square objects into circular holes that applies here regarding Nyota and I.

_{[He listened sleepily, inwardly smiling. He tugged on Spock's collar, urging him to join him in the bed. Not for sex, just to hold him.]}

[Spock continues with his narrative, speaking on all the beautiful things about Jim. And believe me, there was a lot of material to cover.]

_{[He sighed softly as Spock played with his hair. His eyes closed and he listened contently while he drifted off to sleep. His mind was open to Spock's, welcoming him to explore anything he desired. Jim just needed to rest for a while. He'd have short bursts of energy for the next few weeks, intermittent moments of lucidity in between his almost constant napping.]}

[Once Spock was assured that Jim was asleep, he removed himself and went to work.
Well... work was a relative term, he was keeping a journal of everything that had transpired. Some part of him chastised him for doing this, and that he didn't need it due to his eidetic memory. But... with their job, who knew? So he had his rather large, leather bound book in hand, and wrote down not only a record of what was happening, but his thoughts, questions... everything.

It was his one little secret he kept from Jim... well, that and Kodos' continued existence. He would wait for Jim to wake up...

<sub>[Jim would love to read that journal some day. But for now he slept like a baby. For a few hours, then he got up and fulfilled a need then slept for a few more hours. It was a relentless cycle but his mind was at all times tethered to Spock's and over the course of weeks his windows of lucidity would grow longer and longer.

Winona was surprised when she made the mistake of touching her son when he was nearly asleep. She'd stepped into the room to check on him and pet his hair back soothingly. Jim jerked awake, his mind was alert as if he'd been invaded when in fact it had simply revolted to being touched by someone not-Spock. He had flinched and turned around, as if prodded with a hot iron... it took him a while after that to re-settle and get back to resting form.]</sub>

[Spock hasn't had too much time with Winona since Jim started to sleep so much...

...and this time, he decided to approach her for something other than food.]

[Jim was fast asleep up in his room, and Spock had wandered down into the kitchen.]
