It was so sudden. He woke up with a flash, bright lights, soft sounds, a bed, he was alive?? But he'd died in the chamber...in engineering. Spock and he had exchanged that vulcan hand-thing whatever the hell it was. He'd died, he was dead. Was this heaven? Holy....

No. Bones was here nagging at him.

"Oh don't be so melodramatic, you were barely dead. You've been out cold for two weeks."

He was so...taken aback. What had happened? He just remembered being in the locked chamber watching Spock shed tears, glimmering tears of anguish as he slowly died of radiation poisoning... his heart lurched at the memory. He didn't know the vulcan was even capable...

And then Spock was in the room, approaching him. Suddenly... everything else was forgotten. Hell even Bones was gone in his mind, though he could hear the doctor put in a "You know Uhura and I had something to do with it too."

"....Thanks, Spock... for saving my life..."

Exchanging stories with Jim about the Enterprise and the last mission against Khan... how brave he was to give it all up, how much they gave their loyalty to their captain now and evermore... Jim was living it up, beaming at his crew. As the food was dished out there were interspersed pieces of various conversations relating to the fight against Khan that should be a touch concerning...]}

For stopping the unstoppable Vulcan-rage. _{[Everyone raised their drinks in a celebratory heroic gesture. Jim gulped down his drink, exhaling smoothly. No one said anything about him saying that. Surely he had read the reports in the meantime since they'd seen him. But... you were with him the whole time, Spock. When did he had time to?]}

[Spock had mingled fairly well with the rest of the senior staff... Keeping an eye on Jim and continuing to chat with Nyota.
However... when Jim gave the toast he raised an eyebrow.

Interesting... The Vulcan had been in control of all reports sent to Jim's personal PADD, and made certain that nothing got through about what had happened.
Jim did not have enough time to speak with Nyota about what happened... so that only left Doctor McCoy.

Decision made, the Vulcan walked casually over to the 'bar'... where Doctor McCoy seems to have planted himself.
Spock stands next to the other man, waiting for McCoy to notice him... He didn't want to interrupt his conversation after all.]

_{[And Bones got the idea as soon as Spock showed up. Well how could he miss that stare? Spock's presence was a conversation retardant at that. What the hell did Jim see in him? Whatever. He sipped his ale and turned to the vulcan once his other conversational partner had moved on.]}

[Spock hesitated for a moment...]

I have an inquiry... While Jim was at the hospital, did you give him any information pertaining to the day he died? I had made sure that no reports were sent to him to save from...

And no, I made sure he was on media lockdown. He didn't access to a padd. It wouldn't have worked in that wing anyway, the life support generator in the basement sends off a disturbance signal. Board's been petitioning to get it moved but that's all beside the point.

Jim didn't hear anything from me. Why? I assumed the back story for that little toast he did came from you.

I am uncertain as to his source of information... He has been with either you or myself this entire time, and nothing has been mentioned during this gathering...

[Spock seemed to look within himself as he thought for a moment...]

This is the second time he has alluded to having information that he should not have had access to.
[Spock almost seemed to shake his head.] No matter. It is only a curiosity...

[Spock quirks an eyebrow as he regards the Doctor...]

I would not presume that you know me at all Doctor.
However, I was not about to suggest that he had an 'out of body experience.'... It is just a matter of finding out where he got his information.

He had to have snuck it from somewhere. I'd say one of the nurses told him but they wouldn't have access to that information.

_{[Meanwhile the party was rather involved. Scotty was sharing his story of resignation and discovering the Vengeance. Jim headed away from the group to grab another beer, he was perfect for tugging away on his own...]}

[Nyota was actually beginning to relax an enjoy herself to a certain degree...
... but there was no way she was leaving this place without first speaking with Kirk. She knew that man....

...knew that kind of man. And she knew she wouldn't be doing her duty by Spock if she didn't at least make sure that Kirk treated him right.
Drink in hand she made her way over to her Captain...She spoke quietly... so as not to have everyone overhear.]

Kirk... Let's talk.
[She gave him a look that didn't leave room for arguments.]

_{[Had he been a single man he'd have taken her up on that smile. Had this been the night at the bar in Riverside before he got his ass handed to him? He'd have taken her up on anything she had to offer. Now that smile just scared him.]}

She remained silent for a long moment... arms crossed as she looked out at the beautiful view.]

_{[Honestly... he lets her hiss at him. He lets her poke and growl and throw a damn fit all she wants if she chooses to take it that far. Because for once he feels bad about what he's done. Marginally bad. He knows Spock made a choice that hurt her deeply but... wait, ruin?]}

_{[He didn't know what to say. He'd never seen this energy before. Her anger was... kind of scary knowing he was kind of defenseless socially. He could pull rank but that would be a dick move and solve nothing. But he was thinking about it...]}

[They were standing close at this point... and Uhura breathed deeply in an attempt to collect her thoughts...

Uhura looked up at Jim... her body practically trembling with uncontrolled fury...but her voice was barely above a whisper.]

_{[He sighed, rolling his eyes as she got only angrier.]}

_{[She got so calm and that was a bad sign. A deep breath? What was happening? Oh he'd stepped into fuckville hadn't he? Her voice was low, almost peaceful and yet he knew she wanted nothing more then to gut him like a fish.]}

[Nyota's face seemed to crumble for a moment as she turned away from Kirk, her hands on her head in frustration...]

Jim... Spock is Vulcan. Someone who was trained from birth to reign in his emotions... Spock and I were taking our relationship slow for a reason. He always told me he wasn't emotionally ready for it.

[She put her head down... and seemed to deflate a bit.]

_{[Jim looked a bit horrified or like someone had just punched him in the gut. Spock was... was a virgin? Well... that explained a lot. He'd been so stoic, Jim figured that was just his style... but he was so reactive. Now it made sense. He'd never.... damn had he never had an orgasm before? Anything? He wondered just what Spock thought of sex now...]}

I...ah... wow... okay. _{[he looked out at the ocean, the Golden Gate Bridge. He needed a minute... and yet he had so many thoughts already spewing out.]}

Spock never said anything like that to me. He came to my hospital room, he initiated that conversation. He put it all down on the table, said he was going to be by my side forever, in whatever context I wanted. I said I wanted to be together, he agreed... we just... went from there. _{[in his moment of shock he was able to get this out and he knew he had to say it for both of their sakes. Their relationship hung in the balance which meant the bridge climate and their future in Enteprise hung in the balance.]}

[Uhura huffed... then stood beside Kirk, looking out at the bay.]

Kirk, just make sure you talk to him.... make him say everything that's on his mind, otherwise, he'll never bring it up. Communication with a Vulcan is absolutely key.

[She couldn't believe she was already giving relationship advice to the man she lost to.]

My only worry at this point are Spock's intentions. He's always had issues with acceptance, and I made sure from the beginning that we wouldn't do anything he wasn't ready for, and I wouldn't turn him away. Sure, it was frustrating at times...but we got through.

But... he is an adult... just like you... and maybe this time....

[Nyota sighed as she looked up at Jim...]

...he was ready.

...We had that conversation already today. I told him just to be him... I mean... I fell for him when he was unemotional. I don't want him to be any different, he knows that.

He... seemed really happy when I said that. But thanks for saying that. I really didn't know. I dunno that I would have acted any differently but. Well maybe.
