It was so sudden. He woke up with a flash, bright lights, soft sounds, a bed, he was alive?? But he'd died in the chamber...in engineering. Spock and he had exchanged that vulcan hand-thing whatever the hell it was. He'd died, he was dead. Was this heaven? Holy....

No. Bones was here nagging at him.

"Oh don't be so melodramatic, you were barely dead. You've been out cold for two weeks."

He was so...taken aback. What had happened? He just remembered being in the locked chamber watching Spock shed tears, glimmering tears of anguish as he slowly died of radiation poisoning... his heart lurched at the memory. He didn't know the vulcan was even capable...

And then Spock was in the room, approaching him. Suddenly... everything else was forgotten. Hell even Bones was gone in his mind, though he could hear the doctor put in a "You know Uhura and I had something to do with it too."

"....Thanks, Spock... for saving my life..."

[Spock seemed to melt into the kiss...and opened his mouth to Jim.
The Vulcan had had a rather overwhelming afternoon, and he wanted nothing more than to prove how good he was for Jim.

To be told that he was inadequate? Emotionally immature? That there was someone out there better for Jim than him? Spock had felt those words to his very bones and wanted nothing more than to prove Winona wrong.

Spock framed Jim's face so that he could deepen the kiss... pouring his love out for Jim.]

[The horse snorted for attention but Jim ignored it. He slid his tongue not Spock's mouth, prolonging the kiss. Spock was the only one for him. The only one in existence as far as he was concerned.]

You know... [He pulled away gently]

I could take a break... [he imagined doing all manner of naughty things to Spock in the barn hay loft]

[spohkh]

[Spock quirked an eyebrow...]

Was it not you that said that you could not leave White Lightening alone at this time? I did not mean to tempt you....
[Spock's argument was weak... it wouldn't take much to break his resolve.

But, he could wait until tonight... he would always wait for you.]

[Lightning? Who was that? Just kiss him again Spock.]

[Lightning did need constant supervision. But... But Spock...]

[Spock planted one more kiss on Jim's lips... then stepped away from the fence, and out of Jim's reach.
Spock really really wanted to... but they could wait. Jim needed to be with the horse right now, and Spock couldn't be selfish.]

Tonight Jim...
I will return to the house, I have much to meditate on. [To anyone who knew the Vulcan, he looked almost pained when he walked away from Jim... wanting to steal all the kisses.]

[Jim whined as Spock left him. Yes this was 'logical' but...]

Meditate. Is everything ok?

... [he reached his hand through the fence.]

[Spock walked back into Jim's space, giving him a Vulcan 'kiss'...]

I am quite well Ashaya, but a Vulcan has his needs after all. [Spock gave Jim his special half-smile.
This was something that was between him and Winona... Jim probably wouldn't appreciate or completely understand what they were doing.
No matter... This was for Jim.

Plus... it wasn't like Spock was lying, he did need to meditate on a regular basis. He was Vulcan after all.
Spock placed one last kiss, chaste kiss to Jim's lips... It was getting difficult to walk away.]

[He kissed Spock all his love, reaching through the fence to coil his arms around his waist. That kiss went on almost one minute more before Jim pulled away.]

[Spock whispers the words against Jim's lips... yeah, he loves him too.
The Vulcan backs up with one last glimpse of Jim in all his glory, then makes his way back to the house.
He almost forgot... Winona was making him tea. Jim's kisses were indeed quite effective, even against a Vulcan. Spock stepped into the house once more.]

[Winona had the tea waiting for him when he returned, along with some food if he wanted. Deviled eggs and a salad.]

Is he alright out there?

[she wore a knowing smile.]

[Amusement filled his eyes...]

Indeed, he is more than adequate... rather, quite 'at home'.

[The Vulcan eyed the food and sat down. He was hungry after all. He looked at Winona...]

Will you share tea with me Missus Kirk?

[She made herself a cup and sat at the table.]

He's really a natural with those animals. I always thought he'd stay on the farm. But his father's legend influenced him too. I wonder now if his experiences on planets influenced him to join Starfleet.

[Spock sipped his tea... then quirked an eyebrow. Planets? Spock was only aware of Tarsus four... were there others?]

Where other systems has he been to?
[Curiosity bloomed on the Vulcans face.]

Hm? Oh! None other than Earth and Tarsus. He begged to leave earth as soon as he was old enough so we let him go to Tarsus...

But when Jim cake home he didn't ask to leave again.

[She stared into space]

Enterprise missions are the farthest he's been from home.

Whoo!

[Spock took another sip of his tea then helped himself to the salad. It was quite good, and the Vulcan was most appreciative of it.]

He is, as they say, a 'natural' at it. As much as he seems to be at home here, it is equally so in space. Granted, here, his responsibility is less. I fear that Captaincy weighs quite heavily on Jim...

...Damage done to the ship and crew is taken as a personal offense.

Sounds like him. Anything Jim ever tried he did well. Singing, sports, academics, animal taming, cooking, he used to push himself so hard... He was great in school, an obedient son, diligent... Then Tarsus happened.


Sorry for rambling. I'm not surprise, his father was the same way.

Rambling? You were doing no such thing. All information is relevant and quite useful.
He is... rather full of surprises.
[Spock hesitates for a moment... ]

What of yourself Missus Kirk? Do you feel as though you belong in space?

Are you really surprised? Now that you know him?

... I used to belong in space. After George died I didn't feel the same there. I stay anyway out obligation, I didn't want to let my grief take my ability to serve away. It was a service to him to continue on in Starfleet.

Perhaps that's why I can't move on. I'm always surrounded by his memory. It's not a place of discovery for me anymore.

[Spock regarded Winona for a long moment...
He was beginning to see how he could have handled this morning a bit better... he was rather harsh. This woman has been alone since the day George Kirk died.

Spock looks at his empty cup...]
What will you do?

Stay here I guess. Take an early retirement. And Frank and I need to talk whenever he comes back. He's likely not going to be living here anymore. The farm will need someone...

Perhaps I'll manage it full time.

[Spock nods his thanks as he begins to sip his tea once more...

Spock couldn't help but relate to Winona's situation. He had given up a position at the esteemed VSA for Starfleet... not only in honour of his mother, but to follow his dreams.
The thought of travelling space without Jim though... it made the very vastness of the universe seem hallow and uninviting. He would probably resign and go to the new Vulcan settlement... his 'farm' as it were.]

Will you be... happy here? [The word sounded awkward coming out of Spock's mouth... but it was the only word that he could think of. Perhaps he meant 'content'? Satisfied?]

I don't know, Spock. I hope so. It's a step in the right direction if nothing else. Space hasn't helped so far... so something different might not necessarily be worse.

That's something that humans often have to do, Spock. Changing their habits or their environments after emotional traumas.

[Human were... perplexing. His father had remained in the same position as Ambassador even after the death of his wife. But then again... he should not measure in human terms.

Spock finished up his second cup and stood, taking his dishes to the sink.
He returned to Winona and inclined his head.]

May I be excused? As I mentioned before, I am in need of meditation.
[Spock waits this time to be excused... he's not going to make the same mistake twice.]

Thank you for the tea. It was rather more palatable than the replicated tea on the Enterprise.
[A very small, very subtle smile plays on Spock's features as he turned to go upstairs.

After shutting the door to their room, Spock makes himself comfortable on the floor... lighting a small candle in front of him. Taking deep, even breaths he begins to center himself.

This is a rather difficult task....For his entire life he, like all Vulcans, used the planet Vulcan as a means of meditative centering. Now that it was no longer there, the remaining Vulcans have started to use the new colony as their focus. But that place has never been a home for Spock... and neither has Earth.
Lately he has been using the Enterprise... but it was not sufficient. Instead he pictured a golden sun whose shining rays gives life to everything it touches.
Breathing slowly, Spock loses himself in waters so deep and so blue, warm and surrounding him in a comforting manner, that he never wishes to leave. There is a voice that says his name, and it is the only one he wants to hear...
Spock realizes that there is nothing that he would not do for the human that has touched his life so thoroughly. He would help guard and protect that beautiful creature even if it meant protecting him from Spock...
Spock thought of his mother and all of the emotions that she projected. As a Vulcan he had categorized every single one of them and it was only now that he decided to pull them out and analyze them. He was willing to learn this new language, no matter what it took.
The Vulcan centers himself on the one being that he has ever considered home.
