K/S Hospital Scene bc Into Darkness was so K/S TASTIC
It was so sudden. He woke up with a flash, bright lights, soft sounds, a bed, he was alive?? But he'd died in the chamber...in engineering. Spock and he had exchanged that vulcan hand-thing whatever the hell it was. He'd died, he was dead. Was this heaven? Holy....
No. Bones was here nagging at him.
"Oh don't be so melodramatic, you were barely dead. You've been out cold for two weeks."
He was so...taken aback. What had happened? He just remembered being in the locked chamber watching Spock shed tears, glimmering tears of anguish as he slowly died of radiation poisoning... his heart lurched at the memory. He didn't know the vulcan was even capable...
And then Spock was in the room, approaching him. Suddenly... everything else was forgotten. Hell even Bones was gone in his mind, though he could hear the doctor put in a "You know Uhura and I had something to do with it too."
"....Thanks, Spock... for saving my life..."

I'll get someone to bring in another seat, Spock. It's not a big deal.
[She stepped from the room to procure the additional furniture. In the meantime, Spock's communicator chimed a notification. He had a message from a former partner.]
[She's been such a good ex and waited the obligatory week before she communicated with you and everything, Spock.]
Hello, Spock.
If you're free there's a vulcan horticulture exhibit going on near the embassy. I thought you might enjoy going. Maybe you can explain to me and Jim more about the plants from your homeworld.
Nyota.
[There is so much desire there to be close to you, to heal the rift torn by the breakup. She knows it will take time and experience with you to do that so both hesitantly and eagerly she will reach out first.]
no subject
Nyota?
With only a bit of hesitation, Spock lifted his other hand to type a response.]
Greetings Nyota,
I appreciate your offer, however I am unable to comply. Currently, the Captain and I are in Iowa visiting his family. Unfortunately there has been an accident. Jim will be in the hospital until Doctor McCoy releases him. As such, I cannot leave his side.
Spock
[Spock taps 'send'... still feeling that odd disconnect.]
no subject
[A quick response arrived in minutes]
Can I call you now?
[Don't worry about giving her a reply. If she doesn't get a 'no' in five minutes she'll just take the initiative. bring bring, Spock]
no subject
He was definitely not expecting Nyota to call... then again, she always did manage to surprise him.]
Greetings Nyota.
[She wanted to call him... he will let her ask the questions.
Stubborn Vulcan as always.]
no subject
Hey....
I hope this isn't a bad time.
[Her voice wasn't it's typical cool collected self. It betrayed her anxiety and panic.]
no subject
...He's being a dick again, he knows it. he knows now that he should assure her... and get over himself.]
It is not a 'bad time' per say. We are merely waiting for Jim to regain consciousness.
Do not worry Nyota, the Captain is recovering.
He was kicked by a horse.... Doctor McCoy is here to care for him.
[He hoped that would calm her
no subject
[He's not being a dick, she doesn't feel dicked around, she called him semi-unsolicited after all]
We? Oh, you and Leo.
He got kicked by a horse?.... is he alright? What's his condition?
....Are you alright?
no subject
He is...
...recovering. And his condition is stable. I am uncertain of how much I should say over comm, but know that Doctor McCoy is utilizing the same methods as the last time.
[Just in case their conversation was recorded... He didn't want Leonard to get in trouble after all.]
I am well Nyota. I thank you for your concern.
no subject
Oh! His mom, right...
[How was that going? Were you in need of some help out there? Nyota just imagined Spock being lost in a sea of unfamiliar human emotions, drowning in awkward confusion.]
You're not just telling me that?
I remember how you were last time when Jim was in the hospital.
no subject
[That was definitely the truth... If it wasn't for her, Spock might have gone berserk.]
Though this is far from an optimal situation, I am fine now that Jim is stable.
[If she had called a half-hour ago... it might not have been too good.]
I must admit Nyota... I did not expect you to call.
no subject
I'm glad to hear that.
[She breathed a genuine sigh of relief. As long as Spock was alright, then she could be comfortable. And Spock's web of helpful humans was growing. This was wonderful news. And she understood the implication that Spock wasn't fine before Jim was stable... it still turned the knife in her gut to hear him talk like that. He was so attached to Jim's every quirk and nuance... But she had to forget that, she was only here for Spock.]
Why wouldn't I call?
no subject
[Spock didn't really know how to word it. Maybe he thought it was wishful thinking that Nyota would actually one day see him as a friend.]
no subject
I... only waited to give you time honestly.
And for my own dignity, really.
[It wouldn't do for her to just latch on to him immediately. Yes her heart was hurting but that was something that Spock strangely fixed. He was the medicine to the ailment he caused. She inwardly cringed knowing she was being a clingy undignified doormat but she'd still help him any way she knew how.]
no subject
When there is a more opportune time, I would very much like for all of us to get together.
[Spock never wanted to lose her as a friend... and he was quite glad that he didn't.]
no subject
... thanks Spock.
[Dammit her voice was too warm. She couldn't sound like she still loved him. Was that a sob in her voice she was choking back? Oh...shit.]
Do you know anything about when Jim might get discharged? When did this happen?
no subject
Also, Jim and I have been invited to stay on the Kirk farm for the time being... I believe it is a wise choice. That being said, we will not be returning to San Francisco for quite some time.
...Jim will need extra time to recover.
[Spock hesitated for a moment. Should he tell her that he and Jim were now bonded? Would that be callous considering that he and Nyota only called it off a week ago?]
no subject
[That would be very callous and it would test her broken heart in a very negative way, Spock, how perceptive of you you braying ass. Continuing on.]
Just an hour? [Well Spock hadn't stopped her from talking to him... but wasn't it kind of a bad time?]
Should I tell the others what happened? I can be the liaison between you and the crew if need be. You must have your hands full there.
...Can I ask more about how this happened?
no subject
[Spock hesitated once more... He was tired, and he didn't really want to talk about it anymore. Winona had...
..drained him. But did he owe it to Nyota? Perhaps...
On the other hand...]
Perhaps another time Nyota. I must return to Jim at this time...
Thank you for calling.
[He truly was thankful... but he was still on edge. He needed time.]
no subject
I understand. Call me if you need to, alright?
Tell Jim I'm thinking about him.
[Once the call was over Winona returned with not only a chair but a bit of food from the downstairs cafe. A thermos full of coffee for herself, a similar one with tea for Spock, and a small salad for either of them.]
Here. Sit down you look about ready to drop. [She sat, making herself comfortable on "her" side of Jim's bed.]
I suppose this misadventure will be more about you and I getting to know one another than anything to do with Jim here...
no subject
Indeed?
[Really? Well... he supposed that was true. They had learned an awful lot about each other in such a short amount of time. It was rather curious in fact, this relationship that they were building. It was if they were continually on guard around each other, and yet, completely comfortable in a very strange way.
It was... fascinating.
Spock makes a small noncommittal noise.]
If you have any further questions, I suppose that now is a good time to do so.
no subject
[She isn't ready to emotionally invest in someone but she's getting to know him. It's difficult, nigh on impossible for a human to invest intellectually and not emotionally in another being. Even Winona can't do it completely but she can almost nearly know Spock's facts and not blink twice were something terrible to happen to him. It wasn't anything against him, she simply did this as a means to protect herself from the agony of losing another loved one.]
You can ask me things too if you like...
Well... what are you like? What do you like to do in your spare time?
no subject
I have always found the term 'like' to be incredibly unhelpful. It is a word that means too much and yet nothing at all.
[Spock talks about it like it's an inside joke... his eyes twinkling..]
If you are referring to my passions and what it is I do for enjoyment... I ask that you maintain the image that I am a Vulcan. Vulcans do not have 'fun' in the same sense that humans do. I enjoy research, exploration, discovery....
....and on quiet evenings I enjoy chess and music.
What of yourself Missus Kirk? What are your passions?
no subject
...touche.
And point made. I suppose that was stupid to ask.
Do you consider yourself human at all?
Me. Right... I used to do a lot of things. I surfed, raced cars, drank too much. Then I had children. I ride horses, cook, and collect vintage items from the era George and I preferred. I play chess and swim and run most mornings though lately I've been negligent.
What kid of music do you like?
no subject
...she sounded exactly like Jim.
Most curious.
Oh... human? Spock considers that for a moment.]
It is interesting how certain events can change your perspective on certain things. If you had asked me the same question before my mother died, I would have said no...and would have taken insult to the question. to be human is to be weak and emotional. And while Vulcans would never admit to thinking like that... it is nevertheless true.
On the other hand, I cannot deny the half that is human... to do so is illogical.
Since my mother's death I have been attempting to connect with the half of me that is all I have left of her. To say that I am human now would not give her justice.
A rather interesting perspective change, yes?
[Spock is silent for a moment...as if remembering something.]
As a youth I learned how to play the Vulcan lyre... a string instrument much like Earth's guitar or cello. I had learned to enjoy the music it produces... however my mother was always fond of Earth music, and played it often while my father was away on business.
To an extent I have an appreciation for most all music... I do not think I can pick a favourite.
Jim though... he sang once. If I was only to be able to listen to one type of music for the rest of my life, it would be his voice.
no subject
[Well that's genetics and familiarity from upbringing for you, Spock.
Indeed interesting... You were a typical child who denied anything he felt defensive of. A sign of youth.]
Are you happier at all with this perspective?
You play an instrument? That's wonderful. You ought to have Jim sing along sometime. He loves to sing... a teacher of his wanted him to pursue that for a career and I think he could have done it. But Jim always had his heart set on exploring the unexplored. Going where no one has ever been. Fame by itself had been done to death and it bored him much to my relief. I don't think life as a famous singer would have done him any favors. Anyway, I'm rambling sorry.
