It was so sudden. He woke up with a flash, bright lights, soft sounds, a bed, he was alive?? But he'd died in the chamber...in engineering. Spock and he had exchanged that vulcan hand-thing whatever the hell it was. He'd died, he was dead. Was this heaven? Holy....

No. Bones was here nagging at him.

"Oh don't be so melodramatic, you were barely dead. You've been out cold for two weeks."

He was so...taken aback. What had happened? He just remembered being in the locked chamber watching Spock shed tears, glimmering tears of anguish as he slowly died of radiation poisoning... his heart lurched at the memory. He didn't know the vulcan was even capable...

And then Spock was in the room, approaching him. Suddenly... everything else was forgotten. Hell even Bones was gone in his mind, though he could hear the doctor put in a "You know Uhura and I had something to do with it too."

"....Thanks, Spock... for saving my life..."

The reform... right when Vulcan became logical and emotionless. I think most earthlings forget that is a learned behavior.

Nobility.... That is such a curious word. It implies a class system yes? Well, while Vulcans do try to not favour one family over the other, there is an old tradition of honour.

I was once engaged to a female Vulcan by the name of T'Pring. Her family wanted more honour, so they made a proposition with my family and agreed that our mental compatibility was sufficient.

Once the elders realized their mistake, they did not seek to 'push' the matter. As for who specifically broke it off, it was very much a mutual decision.

What I expect of Jim and what Vulcan expects of Jim are completely different things Missus Kirk. What you need to understand is that I am half-human and Vulcan no longer exists. What I expect is that Jim and I last as bondmates... nothing more, and nothing less.

I had not... expected that he would accept my proposal.

As for a typical Vulcan marriage, the bond is its center. Any ceremony that follows is mere formality, and not strictly necessary. There are no gender rolls as such... but...

Jim was very considerate.... just not in the usual way. Yet... he can see that Winona is still very guarded around him...

You must understand Missus Kirk... Vulcans do not 'share' emotions or feelings with one another. It is considered inappropriate and improper. [Spock gives her a look... willing her to understand that everything he had just told her...
...was really very hard for him to share. It just wasn't the Vulcan way.... And in essence, she was asking him to forget everything he had learned growing up.]

[Spock nods as he stands with Winona... and follows her out into the hallway.
A million things race through the Vulcan's mind as he conjures images of what Jim might look like.
Either way, he knows intimately how much he hates the image of Jim in a hospital bed. This time is no different as they walk into Jim's room.]

A bit swollen but thanks to the serum from Khan's blood that Leonard already injected into him, he's healing up fast, the swelling's gone down considerably from surgery. He's asleep, still unconscious from the drugs. Winona steps over, eyes never leaving him as she sits at his side.

The wall panel with his vitals was about half and half with red and green status bars. He wasn't terrible but he wasn't well off either. Surely Leonard will see to that in the next few days.]</sub>

He looks a lot better than I thought he would.

[Spock walks towards Jim, his fingers itching to touch... to confirm.
Standing by Jim's bed, the Vulcan slowly reaches forward and gently touches Jim's fingers... the bond sings at the connection and at the confirmation of life.]

[Traditional hospital room with one chair right? Spock can stand for as long as he can stay awake.]
