The Vow au bc I love this plot twist and Aqua/Jim are adorable

Three years, nearly four, of wedded bliss. Jim was calmer, more focused and honestly a better captain. He had his wife, his beloved Aqua to thank for that, she was his light, his heart, his whole world. She kept him grounded and morally upright and he honestly took fewer stupid risks with his life thanks to her. The crew ran better, the Enterprise had better records, life was good.

Jim had bought them a house for when he was on Shore Leave on Earth, it barely got used but when Enterprise was docked, well they needed to crash somewhere. It was a nice place in San Francisco, in the heart of downtown and worth every penny of the millions it was worth.The property values were sky high but Jim was a veteran captain and got paid accordingly. He used his money on very little else besides charity so he was happy to spoil his wife with a comfortable home. Besides, if and when they had kids... well if their house just happened to be in an ideal school district he wouldn't call it an accident.

Everything was perfect, which begged for it all to come crashing down soon enough. Jim wouldn't remember the crash or the drunk kids in a truck behind him and Aqua on the road, he wouldn't remember that he shouldn't be alive, his wayfinder had saved him....but he doesn't know what this anymore. All he knows is he's laying in bed, he feels numb.. and he's waking up in what sounds and smells like a hospital.

"Mmm... mm." he was so tired and yet his mind was racing with questions. 'Where am I? What happened? Where's my ship?'

"Well we're kind of married so I dunno, maybe I didn't know until now and I married you for money or to be my trophy wife." he was kidding, he wouldn't do such a thing. But if she came onto him, he might start getting physical with her. She was proving to be very fun as well as attractive.

"You're like a god.... but how is this possible? I had no idea magic was real. Why haven't I heard about it until now?"

"I'm not a God. Defeated Hades and an ice Titan, but me? A god? No." she let out a soft chuckle at his teasing, moving closer to him. Her arms were sore from taking on the proper stances for her spells, but that was fine. She was still taking it easy.

"Magic is real, but only for certain worlds. It should be a common thread from one world to the next, but I suppose other worlds forsake it in favor of technology? I'm not sure, but it was for those reasons that it was hard for me to leave the Enterprise. I was the only magical thing around. It affected my magic."

He's looking at her like she hung the moon. His eyes are wide, his mouth slightly agape, she was amazing. He gets it now, how he fell hard for her. But he's also strangely intimidated now. She was so much more awesome than him.

"Huh. So... does Enterprise mess with your magic now? Can you get on it?" because if she can't that's gonna be a bit of a problem for them. And the baby. He can't imagine being in space while his child gets raised without him.

Aqua blinked at Jim's reaction. Was he okay? Or was there something on her face? Hopefully not any ice or water, she hated it whenever there was a bit of it leftover. she was ready to ask him when he fired the first question,

"Hm? Oh no, it doesn't. When we...started to date, whatever was keeping me to the Enterprise was lifted." The pink on her cheeks came back. She didn't know if it was because of their relationship that she was able to come and go back to the Enterprise, or if the fates decided their job was done with pairing them up together.

"But yes, I can get on the Enterprise, that's not an issue anymore." She bridged the gap between them to look Jim over.

"Everything okay?" she asked, bringing her hand up to lightly brush her fingers against his cheek.

"Oh. Well that's good...." he looks her over, still amazed. He wants the show all over again though he can tell she is a bit winded. He hopes the neighbors don't ask questions about the fire and water and wind... did they even know their neighbors?

He flinched when she touched him but smiled gently. "I'm fine... you ok?"

Seeing Jim flinch made Aqua slowly take her hand back. he was still in a delicate position. She wasn't about to force herself on him. Again, she needed to take it easy both on herself, and on him. She couldn't pressure him into anything.

"Yeah, a bit tired, but nothing a break can't fix." As for their neighbors..they didn't really know too well. The land around the house made it hard to really pay much attention to who was to the left or right of them.

"Want to head back inside? I could get us both water and we can watch a movie or something."

He looked a bit disappointed when her hand left. He nodded and followed her inside anyway. He liked the house, he loved being inside it. It made him happy.

"Sure, what do you like? Wait, what do we have?" he wandered around, finding their collection of films.

"What's your favorite? Did you have movies where you grew up?" he can't imagine those are a magical thing...

Aqua had her back turned to him, unable to see the look of disappoint on his face. She was giving him his space. They went inside with Aqua heading to the fridge to grab two bottles of water for them.

"I'm easy to please." With movies, with anything really.

"Uh..no. I had books, but you took me to see my first movie. It was amazing and cute. You went the whole nine yards, getting the popcorn, the drinks and even stretched out your arm then placed it on my shoulder."

"Yeah, I'm noticing... and I sound like a huge dork. I didn't bring you roses too did I?" he flipped through titles. All girly things and then his own movies.

"Hmm.... Total Recall? Dr. Strangelove? The fiftieth Jason movie?" he doubts it. Go on, ask for some RomCom

"Yeah, you brought roses on the third date," she teased, coming over with the bottles of water before sitting down on the couch.

"Total Recall sounds okay. Or....Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon?" Action, adventure and epic sword fights were always fun to watch.

"I had never gone out on a date until you took me out. I was a homebody with my mind focused on my goals. It never occurred to me to do things that were normal or fun outside of magic."

"Yeah?" he felt a bit weird... he was really a sap in dating her. Why? Did he lose all his game?

"Sounds like you needed me. Glad I could intervene. I'd hate for you to still be stuck in a library never seeing the light of day." so to speak. He popped 'Crouching Tiger' into their player and sat with her, accepting the water. This wasn't the best movie to make out to but it was a nice distraction. Something to get his mind off his uncomfortable intimacy with this woman that he didn't remember. She knew everything about him but he knew so little about her.

It wasn't that Jim was a sap in dating her, but he was trying to woo her. He was treating her as a friend, but also trying to romance her. All of which worked very well with her.

"Yeah...so am I." not just for taking her out to movies or what a real date was like. She was really happy to have met him, befriended him and fell in love with him. Aqua could only help that the feelings Jim had for her would eventually return.

She stayed on the couch, giving him enough space to where he could be comfortable, but if he wanted to lean in against her or vice-versa he could.

He never thought he'd woo anyone. He knew he would die alone. Always alone. That's how he lived... what changed?


He watched the movie, watched the love story that followed and wondered about himself and this woman, pregnant with his child. He'd stick around for the baby but what if he never remembered their marriage? What if they never... came back together? Did he had a good thing and ruin it or was this all a sham and his memory loss just saved him from having to confess to her that he can't be in a serious relationship?

They were both in that boat, believing they would die alone. Dying for their friends, or for the sake of the world. Then again, Jim had done that and when Aqua found that out, she was petrified. Hence why she made him a charm to protect him if she couldn't.

She prayed his memories would come back to him. She tried not to think about it, instead, she focused on the movie. As the story progressed Aqua's eyes became heavier. Little by little the gap between them came to a close and ended with the bluenette cuddled up to Jim fast asleep.

Okay, maybe her demonstration had taken out of her more than she thought.

She was pregnant too, she had every right to be tired. Jim froze when she fell asleep on him but he tried to watch the movie and forget about it, distract himself some more. But he was only fooling himself. He turned the TV off and just felt her against him... slowly he took her in, her smell, the sound of her breathing, her whole..... this was weird. But he didn't know how to get out of it.

Lucky the house was littered with books. He had one within arm's reach and he read that.. until he fell asleep too.

It would at least an hour until Aqua began to come back around. She felt something against her, but didn't think too much about it. There was a sense of peace about her, one she hadn't felt in ages. She had no idea she was sleeping against Jim. For all she knew, she was cuddling against the arm of the couch, holding onto it.

"Mmmm...."

Well Jim is pretty out of it, he's still sleeping though he's shifted to lay against her as well, his head on hers. He's perfectly still, baby face, he looks like he's his normal everyday self. Sleeping comfortably against his wife.

Aqua continued to cuddle against her husband, pulling away a little to sleepily stare down at his face. He always looked so cute like that. So at peace and happy. Aqua couldn't help herself, she leaned in to give a chaste kiss. At least...it would've been chaste if it weren't for her tongue slipping out to lightly trace along his bottom lip.

Good thing he was asleep. He was slowly waking up but... his body responded to the kiss first. His lips quivered then he puckered, returning her gesture... but his eyes slowly opened...

"Mmm..." he stiffened, moving back, looking at Aqua shocked.

Having Jim move back didn't deter Aqua. It only meant their kiss was over and she had to go back to resting her head against his shoulder. She did get to be more affectionate whenever she was half asleep. Hopefully he didn't mind, hopefully. if he did, too bad, she was already drifting back asleep.

Well he sits up for a while, wondering that the heck that was all about. He just watched her and wondered if that was normal for her...

but thing is, he kissed back and it had felt natural. Even nice.


What did this mean about him? It was good news surely but he just... didn't really know what to think and he wanted out of her laying on him but he didn't think he should move her... except he will. He'll lay pillows underneath her and lay her out on the couch, then wander off on his own.

Aqua didn't wake up from Jim moving out from her. In the midst of dreaming she knew he left as her facial expression briefly changed from calm to slightly upset. She had a frown on her face for a moment until she got comfortable without him.

The blunette didn't know if Jim was awake of her kiss, but didn't ask. Days moved on and a month later they were at the doctor's office for a check up. McCoy was acting as primary physical in conjunction with an OB/GYN. so far everything about Aqua and the baby was fine. Both were healthy and Aqua's morning sickness had gone down quite a bit.

The only thing she'd have to do was take one extra dose of multi-vitamins. That was it. Aqua released a sigh of relief, happy to hear the pregnancy was coming along.

"So far so good, right?"

Jim got to enjoy seeing a weird remote-sonogram he didn't understand of some strange pinprick bulbous thing he didn't recognize. Bones prattled on and he and the OB/GYN were happy to lecture ad nauseum about anything from pre-natal vitamins to breast feeding. He wanted to roll his eyes and yawn obnoxiously to express his boredom but out of respect for Aqua he didn't.

Strangely over the last month he'd grown attached to her, even gotten a bit of a crush on her. She was magical, badass, beautiful, pure hearted, and he had an inkling she was good in the sack. Damn he had to thank his own judgment on this, yes he totally would have crawled the earth to marry this woman, she's a keeper.

The baby still freaks him out though but...it certainly was.... well there was definitely a thing inside her.

"Jim?" Aqua looked over at him, trying to read his expression. He was never thrilled whenever McCoy started talking medical jargon. The gist of the appointment was to find out how she and the baby were coming along. So far, everything was fine.

"You okay?" she asked, placing her hand on his. Their appointment was over now and they could do whatever they wanted to.

She noticed over the last month things had changed between them, but it was a good type of change. Things were drastically less awkward between them. They were building a friendship between them, the perfect foundation to a loving relationship. Though there were some challenges with that, particularly with her needs...but she found ways to keep herself occupied.

"Hm? Yeah, fine. Just... he certainly likes to get on his medical soap box, yeah?" he smiled.

"But you're both doing good so it's fine. When this is over I am taking you somewhere nice. I'm famished." he's not even listening to Bones, who he knows will send all this along to him in easy-to-digest note-form anyway. He's just imagining getting out of here and sinking his teeth into something delicious. Steak... a burrito... salad... cake...
