Spock wasn't so naive as to believe that Jim would change overnight... Just as Spock himself would not immediately comprehend human emotions. He predicted future confrontations...
....but for now? They were prepared. At least, as much as they could be considering who they were. They were both stubborn individuals.... and as much as that was a vice it was also a blessing. Because as soon as either of them made a decision, they would do their utmost to see it done.
