[Spock inclines his head then reaches forward. Placing his fingers along the appropriate psy-points on Winona's face, Spock speaks the ritual words...]
My mind to your mind...
..my thoughts to your thoughts...
[The familiar inky darkness enveloped them both once more... but it was far more chaotic than it was before. Spock's emotions were almost tangible as he brought Winona forward to the appropriate memories.
The darkness shifted... showing Spock's perspective of the bridge as the ship plunged through the clouds. When the situation had calmed... Scotty's voice echoed through the memory, showing the Vulcan's plummeting emotions at what the engineer might mean. Spock raced through the hallways, bringing Winona with him. Then there... the glass.... Jim sitting, dying.
The entire conversation was played for Winona's sake and Spock had meant to stop it there, to explain what had happened.... but the memory had a mind of its own. It continued, showing Spock's pain as he realized what he had lost, and the hunt for Khan.
It was only Uhura's word that the man's blood could save Jim that stopped the Vulcan from killing him....
The memory faded as they witnessed Jim emerge from his .... condition.... and it was there he ended the meld. Spock, at least, had managed to keep the tears at bay this time.]
I... apologise for not informing you before. But he did not wish to worry you.
